and now... i'm unstoppable

I opened both salons in 2020 and the pandemic changed everything. It gave me a rare (long) moment to pause, reflect and truly get introspective on what is important to me. I wanted to give my clients my undivided attention and make a real impact on those that come into my realm. I invested in business coaching and more education for myself, completely changed our business models & started pursuing becoming an independent educator.
These days you can find me coaching & guiding my teams on their own path, in NYC every 12 weeks doing pop-ups at hairstory studio, styling editorial hair on set, creating content online, traveling the country teaching students via my Indie education brand: Juxtaposed Hair Education and of course, taking care of my clients behind the chair on both coasts.

things were happening...

I completed 2 intense apprenticeships, spent many years working for others & educating their stylists. During that time I also I took advanced trainings in precision, razor & dry cutting, learning directly from or with those that had trained with Vidal Sassoon, Sally Rogerson, Bumble & Bumble, Nick Arrorjo, Devachan and many others, plus extensive training in hair color from the best in the industry. Eventually my home salon closed and it was my turn - opening two salons in CA - Scarlet Salon in Berkeley and Knuckleheads & Harlots in Oakland, which could never have happened without my biz partners Brit & Frank, they keep me grounded.

I started working in a hair salon at the age of 15, sweeping floors, participating in hair shows and apprenticing (off the books). I had found my calling, but it would have to wait. At 16 the rock’n’roll life called me, and I listened. The streets of San Francisco, Hollywood & NYC became my playground & cosmo school went on the back burner (tho I continued to do DIY hair in the punk scene). After 12 years I finally completed this leg of my journey - which, not coincidentally, coincided with getting sober.

The birth of a universe

I am an artist, a salon owner, a mentor, a leader, a rebel, a change maker, an outsider. I build inclusive spaces that break barriers and open doors for people who have been left out and crave community. I create art that people wear every day of their lives and help them see themselves as they want to be seen. I empower others who have faced struggle by sharing where I have come from & what I have overcome. I share my knowledge and skills with others who want to do more and be better. I offer an open hand to those who are ready to take responsibility for the things they have taped to their vision board.
I provide a safe place for art, learning, and growing, and want to make an impact on each person that sits in my chair, attends a class or chooses to work in one of my spaces.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

I've spent many years training in the disciplines of precision, razor & dry curly cutting, during which I have developed a unique approach that brings all of these schools of thought together in what I call “Juxtaposed Cutting”. Juxtaposed Cutting is built upon the foundations of precision, the intuitiveness of the razor & executed thru cutting the hair dry.

When you take my classes you will learn how to approach any texture of hair, from the coil-y to wavy, curly to straight,  and walk away with the confidence to use dry cutting to enhance shape and bring out texture.
